MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/14/24)---The goalless drought continued for the Cobbers in their season opener against Dakota Wesleyan.
Concordia was able to dominate play in the second half, outshot the Tigers 6-1 and had eight corner kicks in the final 45 minutes but couldn't find the equalizer and lost 1-0.
The Cobbers had quality chances from their continued possession in the Dakota Wesleyan half in the second period but the shots either found the goalkeeper's gloves or were blocked by a sliding defender.
The game-deciding goal came in the first half in the 18th-minute of play when a Dakota Wesleyan attacker pounced on a loose ball at the top of the Concordia penalty area after a corner kick and fired the ball into the lower right corner of the net.
Gannon Brooks and Noah Meyer led Concordia with two shots each. Both players also had one shot on goal as CC outshot the Tigers 4-3 in shots on goal.
Cobber goalie Jensen Waltz made two saves in his fifth straight start of the season.
Concordia will look to find the back of the net when they host its MIAC opener against St. Scholastica on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. The Cobbers will follow that up with a non-conference match at home vs. Wis.-River Falls on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 1:45 p.m.
