Brisk Weather Gives Rise To Chilly Offensive Attack

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/29/13)—Concordia's offensive attack was as chilly as the weather as the Cobbers were shutout for the second straight game and lost 2-0 to Macalester.

The Cobbers conceded a goal in the 61st minute and then a bizarre goal with just :02-seconds left in the game and lost for the second time in the past four games. CC is now 5-11-1 overall and 2-7-0 in conference play. Macalester moves to 7-8-2 in all games and 3-4-2 in conference play.

Concordia's defense rose to the occasion in the first half of play. The Cobbers gave up 10 corner kicks in the first 45 minutes of play but routinely cleared away any chance before the Scots could generate a quality opportunity.  CC had a couple of chances from the top of the penalty area in the first half but couldn't find the target.

The game turned at the 15-minute mark of the second half when Concordia turned the ball over at the top of their 18-yard box. Dylan Wong dribbled the ball down the left side of the penalty area and then passed a ball across the face of the net to Robin Forslund who tapped in the first of his two goals on the day.

The best sustained pressure of the afternoon for the Cobbers came in the final five minutes of play. Concordia pressed numbers into the offensive attack and had several chances from crossing attempts and throw-ins. CC was never able to connect on a shot that founds its way through traffic as Macalester put numbers behind the ball for the final minutes of the game. There was several times where the ball ping-ponged around the Macalester goal area but the ball never found an open Concordia player for a clear chance.

The Scots capped off the scoring just before the final whistle. Concordia pushed everyone forward in the final 25 seconds of play to try and score from a throw-in. The ball was cleared up the field and a Macalester forward was standing all alone with CC goalie Ben Glogoza inside the Scot defensive half. Alan Schembri-Wismayer had a 1 v.1 situation with Glogoza over 65 yards in a scene straight out of a camp training session. Schembri-Wismayer got the ball all the way inside the Cobber penalty area and Glogoza was able to force him wide before he dished the ball to Forslund who finished off his second bunny of the game.

Concordia was outshot 13-7 in total shots for the game but only 4-3 in shots on goal. Glogoza made two saves for the Cobbers while Noah Schoenberg stopped three shots to pick up his second win of the year.

The Cobbers will now finish off the 2013 season when they host St. John's on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m.
