12-0 Point Streak Costs Cobbers Against River Falls
RIVER FALLS, Wis. (11/26/24)---Concordia could never recover from a 12-0 Wis.-River Falls points streak midway through the first half, was forced to chase the game for the final 26 minutes of play and lost 68-59.
The Cobbers never led after the Falcons went on their game-deciding run and could only get as close as six points late in the second half as they lost for the first time all season. If you take the 12-0 run that lasted over a span of 3:15, Concordia outscored River Falls 59-56 for the other 36:45 of the game.
Concordia (3-1) had a better shooting percentage, made one more field goal and had a decided edge in points in the paint than the Falcons but it was River Falls' ability to knock down shots from outside the arc that proved to be the statistical difference.
The Cobbers shot 51.0% from the floor and made 25 field goals as opposed to 40.7% and 24 field goals for the Falcons. CC was also able to get the ball inside which led to a 42-24 advantage in points in the paint.
Wis.-River Falls (3-2) made five more shots from distance. They were 8-for-27 from 3-point range while Concordia made only 3-of-15 (20.0%) shots from outside the arc.
The Cobber inside trio of Jacob Cook, Rowan Nelson and Jackson Loge once again led the way for CC. They combined to score 45 of the team's 59 points.
Cook finished with a team-high 17 points on a 7-for-11 shooting night. He also recorded six rebounds.
Nelson added 15 points and Loge had 13 points and grabbed 12 boards to post his second straight double-double and third of the season.
Junior point guard Peyton Belka came away with nine points and was 4-for-9 from the floor.
Concordia will spend Thanksgiving traveling to Lincoln, Neb. Where they will participate in the 35th annual Neb. Wesleyan Snyder Classic on Nov. 29-30. The Cobbers will open the tournament by facing Central (Iowa) on Nov. 29 at 5 p.m.
