Cobbers Fall In Home MIAC Doubleheader Weekend

FARGO, N.D. (2/24/24)---After playing a pair of matches in the Duluth area last weekend, the Cobbers returned home for a conference doubleheader weekend.

Concordia wasn't able to come up with ley points on Saturday or Sunday and lost 9-0 to Bethel and 8-1 to St. Catherine.

The two defeats drop the Cobbers' record to 3-9 on the season. They are 0-5 in the MIAC.

While the scoreline read a dominant performance for the Royals, the matches were close with CC being a few points away from grabbing team points.

The doubles play featured the closest match of the day with the No.3 doubles group of Lizzie Allan and Bell Hamre falling in the super-set tie-breaker. They fought to a 7-7 in regulation play but then fell 7-3 in the tie-breaker.

The No.1 doubles team of Raquel Egge and Mary Skorich were locked in a tight battle and lost 8-4.

Egge played in the closest singles bout. Playing at No.1 singles, she dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision.

The Cobbers were back on the court for an afternoon match at Courts Plus on Sunday. CC dropped a pair of doubles matches in the super-set and had a pair of singles matches go to extra games.

Egge and Skorich nearly came up with the win at No.1 doubles. They lost 7-4 in the tie-breaker in a match that could have gone either way.

The same tale could be told for the No.3 doubles match. Lizzie Allan and Bell Hamre also went to the wire before dropping an identical 8-7 (7-4) decision.

The lone win for the Cobbers came from Skorich who won in straight sets at No.2 singles. She recorded identical 6-3 wins to earn her third singles victory of the year.

UP NEXT: Concordia will be hoping that a change of scenery will switch their fortunes on the court. The Cobbers will jet off for Florida where they will play five matches from Mar. 4-7 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
