Cobbers Split Home-And-Away Non-Conference Weekend

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (2/11/24)---Concordia finished off its home-and-away non-conference weekend by dropping a 6-1 decision against Division II Minn.-Crookston in a match played in Grand Forks.

Concordia splits its matches over the weekend and is now 3-5 on the season. The Golden Eagles won their third straight to start the year and are 3-0.

The Cobbers won one of the doubles bouts, but lost the lone team point for doubles play under the Division II scoring system.

The No.1 doubles team of senior Raquel Egge and junior Mary Skorich came away with a win in extra games. They won the last two games in the match after the score was deadlocked at 5-5 and claimed the 7-5 victory. It is their first doubles win of the season.

The lone singles win that gave the Cobbers their team point came at No.3 singles, where Anna Hacker won in the super-set tie-breaker for the second straight match. Unlike Saturday's victory in the super-set where Hacker won the first set, she lost 6-4 in the opener against Crookston and then rallied to record a 6-3 victory in the second and a 10-7 triumph in the super-set.

Hacker has now won three of her last singles matches in a streak that started in the spring season last weekend. She is 3-5 on the year.

The closest of the five other singles bouts came at No.6 singles where first-year Cobber Bell Hamre lost a thriller in the super-set. Hamre lost the opener in a tie-breaker, claimed a 6-1 win in the second and then fell in extra points (13-11) in a back-and-forth super-set.
