Doubles Change Helps Cobbers Against Saints

FARGO, N.D. (4/02/23)---Concordia claimed two of the three doubles matches against St. Scholastica, but it wasn't enough as the Cobbers fell 5-4 in an exciting match against the Saints.

The 5-4 loss is a major improvement over the 2022 season when the Cobbers fell 8-1 to St. Scholastica.

Concordia is now 9-10 in all matches this season and 2-7 in conference play. The Saints improve to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in the MIAC.

Cobber head coach Zach Zitur changed up the doubles teams and it paid off. The new doubles tandems of Raquel Egge and Anna Hacker and Emily Savageau and Lizzie Allan both came through with wins in their very first match of the season that they were paired together.

Egge and Hacker battled to an 8-6 at No.1 doubles, while Savageau and Allan needed to go to the tie-breaker to win 8-7 (7-5).

The two doubles wins brings Concordia's season doubles record to 29-28. The 29 doubles wins are the most since the 2012 season when the Cobbers amassed 31 total doubles victories.

Savageau would carry over the momentum from her doubles match to the singles competition. She won in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to become the only double winner on the day for CC.

Savageau is now 7-11 on the season. Her seven singles wins are a career high for a single year for Savageau.

Erin Borchard picked up the other singles win for the Cobbers. She cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No.6 singles to earn her 11th singles win of the year. She is tied with Lizzie Allan for the team lead in singles victories.
