A 4th Straight Weekend Doubleheader
FARGO, N.D. (3/20/16)—It was the fourth straight weekend that Concordia played back-to-back matches on Saturday and Sunday and for the fourth straight weekend the Cobbers lost a pair of matches.
Concordia traveled north to Grand Forks to take on Division I opponent University of North Dakota and dropped a 7-0 decision and then returned to face MIAC foe St. Mary's on Sunday morning and lost 9-0.
The match against the Fighting Hawks on Saturday was played under the DI guidelines of a seven-match team competition. The Cobbers dropped both singles bouts and then the five singles matches. The closest singles match of the day came at No.4 singles where Lisa Neumann lost 6-1, 6-3.
On Sunday the Cobbers took on St. Mary's in an early-morning match. Concordia fought through three tough doubles bouts. The No.1 doubles tandem of Brittany Glatt and Kendra Stoick had the closest match. They went back-and-forth and finally lost 8-6.
Stoick was involved in a super-set tie-breaker thriller in singles play. She dropped her opening set 7-5 at No.2 singles but then rallied for a 6-2 win in the second set. Stoick could never get on a multiple-point roll in the super-set and lost 10-4.
WHAT'S NEXT
Concordia will have a two-week break for the Easter holiday. The Cobbers will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 2 when they play at regionally-ranked Carleton. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at the Northfield Tennis Center.
