Cobbers Start To Eye Success In Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/03/13)— Concordia spent a week in Florida on its annual Spring Break training trip and came away with their most successful results of the season.

While the Cobbers didn't record an overall team victory, several individuals experienced wins and came away with a renewed sense of enthusiasm. Concordia's closest chance at a victory came against Hanover when CC picked up two singles wins and narrowly lost 5-3.

A pair of freshmen led Concordia in singles play. Morgan Sawatzke and Brittany Glatt both earned victories in Florida. Sawatzke won two of her final four singles matches in Florida and was 2-5 for the week as the team's No.6 singles player. She posted a straight-set win against her opponent from Hanover and then won 7-6 (2), 2-6, 10-8 in the final match against Augustana (Ill.). Glatt also scored a victory in the match against Hanover. She won 7-5, 6-2 at No.4 singles to earn her first collegiate singles victory.

The only doubles win of the trip was turned in by the No.1 doubles partnership of Chelsie McGraw and Olivia DeLeon. The senior duo won 9-7 in the match with Hanover. They came close to a second straight victory in the match with Alma but lost a 9-7 heartbreaker.

Concordia will return to cold weather tennis when they host conference foe St. Ben's on Saturday, Mar. 16 at 5 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo.
