Wins Over Dragons And Bulldogs, Oh My

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/15/12)—Concordia posted a pair of narrow-margin wins over NCAA Division II teams on Saturday. The Cobbers held off cross-town rival MSU Moorhead 6-3 in the first match of the day and then edged University of Minnesota Duluth 5-4 in the nightcap.
 
One of the biggest pieces of news for the Cobbers came from No.1 singles player Andrea Rognlien who was forced to retire during her singles match against MSU Moorhead due to sickness brought on by eating symptoms. Rognlien's teammates rallied around the senior and earned the team's 10^th and 11^th wins of the year. CC is now 11-8 in overall matches.

Concordia won two of the three doubles matches against MSU Moorhead to set the tone against the Dragons right away. Rognlien teamed with Julie Olson to win 8-4 at No.1 doubles. Chelsie McGraw and Kelly Kalvoda then romped to an 8-1 victory at No.3 doubles.

Julie Olson led the CC contingent which won four matches. She claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win at No.2 singles. McGraw and Kalvoda also won their singles matches. The tightest match of the entire team contest came at No.6 singles where Laura Hintzen eked out a 6-7 (8), 6-2, 10-6 win in the super-set tie-breaker.

The CC doubles crew once again kick-started the team to a win against the Bulldogs. Concordia took two of the three doubles bouts and then split the single matches to win 5-4. Olson teamed with McGraw, in the absence of the sicken Rognlien, and posted an 8-4 win at No.1 doubles. The twin tandem of Andrea and Emma Koskiniemi earned second collegiate doubles win as they recorded an 8-5 win at No.2 doubles.   

Emma Koskiniemi, McGraw and Kalvoda all earned straight set wins in singles play to help Concordia to the one-point win.
