An NCAA Championship Meet Full Of Surprises
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (3/15/25)---It was an NCAA Championship Meet full of surprises – both good and bad – for Cobber athletes Cooper Folkestad and Brady Goss.
Folkestad was on the receiving end of the really good surprise as he saved the best indoor performance of his career for last. Folkestad came through with a personal-best mark in the shot to finish fourth and earn his third NCAA Indoor All-American honor.
Folkestad joins Aaron Banks as the only Cobbers in program history to earn more than two NCAA Indoor All-American honors.
The unfortunate surprise belonged to Goss, who was competing in his first NCAA National Meet and was disqualified in the second heat of the mile.
Folkestad's All-American performance came on the fifth throw in the finals of the shot put. He qualified for the finals with a distance of 57-01.50 on his second attempt of the prelims.
Folkestad scratched in his first attempt in the finals but then unleashed a mammoth toss of 58-07.25, which vaulted him into fourth place in the final standings and went over two feet farther than his previous personal best.
Goss was poised to qualify for the finals in the mile on Friday after winning the second heat with a time of 4:12.00. Unfortunately, a protest was filed after the race about a possible infraction during the course of the prelims.
In the end, it was determined by a panel of judges that Goss cut another runner off going around one of the corners, so he was disqualified.
