Top 3 Program Marks & 3 Event Wins Highlight SJU Invite

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (2/15/24)---It was a pair of season firsts for the Cobbers at the St. John's Invite as Concordia faced MIAC competition for the first time this year. 
 
The 4x200-meter relay team came away with the track event of the meet when they ran a meet-record time of 1:29.81. The team of Nolan Morical, Nicholas Hasbargen, Tommy Schreiner and Jordan Petron came together to win the event. That is the fastest time in the MIAC this year and is the third fastest in Cobber history. 
 
Trevor Tiongson was one of three individual event winners for Concordia. Tiongson ran a time of 51.09 in the 400 meters on his way to the victory. Not far behind him was Brayden Carlson who placed fourth with a time of 51.72. Tiongson and Carlson are currently ranked seventh and eighth in the MIAC this year in the 400.
 
Petron was the next individual event winner for the Cobbers. He crossed the line in the 200 meters with a time of 22.94 which enabled him to secure the victory. He is currently seventh in the MIAC this year in the event. 
 
Morical and Carlson were behind Petron, finishing seventh and eighth. With Morical running a 23.58 and Carlson only .02 of a second behind at 23.60. Petron and Morical ran the 60-meter dash earlier in the meet as well. Petron ran a personal best time of 7.28, and Morical clocked a time of 7.38. With his personal best time, Petron is now the 14th fastest 60-meter runner in Cobber history.
 
Logan Clark placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles. His prelim time was slightly faster than his final time at 8.89. Clark is currently ranked 13th in the MIAC this year in that event.
 
Rounding out the track events were a pair of 1k runners. Seniors Gavin Groshelle and Lucas Hinojos placed fifth and eighth in the event. Groshelle ran a time of 2:39.39 and Hinojos ran a personal-best time of 2:41.89. Both runners are ranked inside the Top 25 in the MIAC this year. 
 
Cooper Folkestad set the tone for the field events when he unleashed a season-best throw of 53-11.75 in the shot put. That throw earned him the win in the event which featured 36 competitors. He is currently second in the MIAC in the event.

Right behind Folkestad with a second-place finish was Blake Houska, who had a personal best throw of 48-10.75. That throw puts him at No.10 on the all-time Cobber list and moves him into a tie for seventh place in the MIAC this year. 
 
Schreiner put himself in the record books as only the second Cobber to post a distance of at least 23 feet in the long jump. Schreiner leaped to a personal-best distance of 23-00 feet even. He ranks second on the all-time Cobber list and took second in the meet. His distance is also third in the MIAC this year. 
 
Tyler Evans capped off the top Cobber field finishers at the meet with a third-place finish in the pole vault. Evans had a personal best vault of 13-11.25. That height ranks Evans seventh in the conference this year. 
 
The Cobbers sent two runners to the SDSU classic on Friday. Brady Goss and Tyler Goss both competed in the 5k. Brady Goss ran a time of 15:02.69 (15:11.79c) and Tyler Goss recorded a time of 15:21.64(15:30.1) The brothers become the 21st and 22nd runners in Cobber history to run under 16 minutes. Brady is now sixth on the all-time list and eighth in the MIAC. Tyler is 11th on the all-time list and 12th in the MIAC this year.
 
The Cobbers will have one last chance to make MIAC qualifying marks as they travel back to Grand Forks to compete in the UND Tune-Up on Friday, Feb. 21 starting at 11 a.m.
