Wire-To-Wire Win Pushes Cobbers Into Top 6
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/5/25)---It was a wire-to-wire special for the Cobbers as they never trailed in their midweek game against St. Olaf and cruised to an 81-56 win.
Concordia held the advantage in almost every statistical category and held a double-digit lead for the final 32 minutes of the game as they posted their second straight win.
The victory moves the Cobbers into the Top 6 in the MIAC standings for the 6-team conference tournament. CC is 5-6 in conference play and tied for fifth place. Concordia ups its overall record to 9-11 on the year.
The key stretch of the game came in the first 10 minutes of play when Concordia turned an 11-11 score into a 28-14 lead by going on a 17-3 run. The Cobbers would never let the Oles get to within 11 points for the remainder of the game and used a 21-1 lead in a span of 6 minutes in the second half to push the margin all the way to 31 points – the largest of the game.
Concordia finished the contest by shooting 55.9% (33-for-59) from the floor, 45.8% (11-for-24) from 3-point range and 100% (4-for-4) from the free throw line. The 11 made 3-pointers marked the fourth time this season that the Cobbers have connected on double-digit shots from outside the arc. They also made 10 shots from distance in their first game at St. Olaf this year.
The Cobbers had four players finish with at least 12 points. Jacob Cook was 9-for-16 from the floor and scored a game-high 19 points to go with six rebounds and three assists.
Rowan Nelson and Peyton Belka both went 2-for-5 from behind the arc. Nelson posted 13 points and six rebounds, while Belka scored 12 points, also had six boards and dished out four assists just for good measure.
The surprise member of the double-digit quartet was freshman Connor Engelmeyer. Engelmeyer was a perfect 4-for-4 from distance and finished with a season-high 12 points. His previous season high was six points in CC's game with Central over the Thanksgiving break.
Erik Hedstrom followed up his career-high game on Saturday by scoring eight points and hauling down five boards.
Concordia will travel to Collegeville to take on the league-leading Johnnies on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m.
