MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/05/14)—Concordia's Wednesday magic finally ran out against St. Olaf. The Cobbers could never get closer than five points in the second half and lost 68-57 to the Oles. The defeat is the first for Concordia at home on Wednesday this season.
The Cobbers led on three occasions in the first half but gave up a 10-0 run over a stretch of 3:19 midway through the opening period, could never put together an extended offensive streak and lost for the second time in the last four games. CC is now 10-11 overall and 6-10 in conference play. St. Olaf wins for the ninth straight game, is 11-1 since the start of 2014, and improves to 16-4 in all games and 13-2 in league play.
Concordia struggled around the basket against the Oles. The Cobbers were outrebounded 33-26 in the game and St. Olaf had a 30-14 edge in points in the paint.
The Cobbers wound up shooting 40.4% (19-for-47) from the floor and 37.5% (6-for-16) from outside the arc. St. Olaf put up similar shooting numbers as they shot 46.9% (23-for-49) from the floor and 28.6% (4-for-14) from 3-point range.
Concordia was led in scoring for the second straight game by sophomore guard Brett Bergeson. Two days after putting up a career-high 26 points at Augsburg, Bergeson connected on a trio of 3-pointers and finished with 13 points. He was the only CC player in double figures for the game. Jordan Bolger scored nine points and added a team-high six rebounds.
The Cobbers will return to action when they host Carleton on Monday, Feb. 10 at 7:45 p.m.
