4-Run Innings Rule The Day In Split With Loras

AUBURNDALE, Fla. (3/13/23)---4-run innings ruled the day in the Cobbers' doubleheader with Loras on Monday. The Duhawks posted a 4-run frame in the first game and won 4-1, and then Concordia returned the favor with a quartet of runs in the fourth inning in the nightcap and won 5-2.

It's the third split of games in a day for the Cobbers in Florida. The win in Game 2 ended a 6-game losing skid for Concordia who is now 3-7 on the year. Loras, who started the year with four straight wins, is 7-4 for the season.

All the scoring in the opener came in the seventh inning. Neither team was able to plate a run in the first six frames of the game. That changed in the top of the seventh when Loras scored four times on four hits to take a 4-0 lead.

Concordia almost came through with the huge comeback in the bottom of the seventh. Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe started the inning with a single. Noah Pilon pinch ran for Henkemeyer-Howe and scored Justin Kloster's double to left field. The Cobbers had runners on second and third with two outs, but couldn't up with the game-tying hit.

Loras held a 9-6 edge in hits in Game 1.

The Cobbers had six different players get one hit each in the game. Kloster came through with the only extra-base hit when he posted the run-scoring double in the seventh.

Dylan Inniger was the opener for CC in the first game. He pitched a perfect first inning, and then gave way to Alex Rudquist who went 5.2 innings and was saddled with his first loss of the year. Max Boran struck out the only he batter he faced to get the final out of the seventh inning.

Dylan Erholtz played a key role in the Game 2 win for Concordia. He pitched the first 5.0 innings, and kept CC in the game until they could come up with the 4-run explosion in the fourth.

Loras got their only run off of Erholtz on a 1st-inning, solo home run. Erholtz didn't allow another hit for the remainder of his start. He struck out three and only walked one batter to pick up his first win of the year.

The Cobbers tied the game at 1-1 when Andy Gravdahl scored from third on a 2-out error in the third inning.

The decisive fourth inning came on four Cobber hits and another key Duhawk error. Thomas Horan, Gravdahl, Matt Gruber and Henkemeyer-Howe all had RBI in the inning as CC sent nine hitters to the plate.

Kyle Cluff came on in relief of Erholtz and finished off the final two frames. He allowed two hits, one run and struck out three batters.

Concordia held a 4-3 advantage in hits in the second game.
Henkemeyer-Howe and Matt Samuelson were the only two Cobbers to have a hit in both games. Both players came up with a single base knock in each game.
