6 Finishers Under 20 Minutes At UND

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (10/19/19)---Junior Meritt Miller led Concordia in the opening meet of the season against NCAA Division I and II competition at the NDSU Bison Open and she finished off the "regular season" by leading the Cobbers against similar competition at the UND Ron Pynn Classic.

Miller, who was 33rd at the NDSU Open on Aug. 30, posted a Top 20 finish by running a 18:41 over the 5K course. She finished in 19th place and her finishing time is her season best over a 5K course this year.

Miller was one of three Cobber harriers who crossed the line in under 19 minutes. Seniors Kara Andersen and Miriah Forness were within 1.4 second of one another as they finished in 23rd and 24th place. Andersen clocked an 18:51.6 and Forness had a time of 18:53.0. For Forness it was her fastest 5K time of the year.

All three of Concordia's top finishers recorded their second straight Top 25 finish while Forness now has three straight Top 25 finishes.

Isabel Fredrickson and Josie Herrmann were the team's final two team scoring finishers. Fredrickson was 37th with a time of 19:41 and Hermann was 41st at 19:55. It marks the second straight 5K meet that the Cobbers have had all of their Top 5 finishers cross the line under 20 minutes.

Sophomore Carly Fornshell made it six runners under 20 minutes for CC. She clocked a 19:59.7 and that is her top time in a 5K meet this year.

Emily Rugloski was close to giving Concordia seven runners under 20 minutes. She crossed the line in a time of 20:04 and was the No.46 finisher in a meet of 91 athletes.  

Concordia had a pair of freshmen finish under the 21-minute mark. Amelia Landsverk posted a time of 20:16 and Kelly Lorenz had a mark of 20:43. For Lorenz that is season-best time in a 5K race.     

UP NEXT: Concordia will have two weeks to train for the MIAC Championship Meet. The Cobbers will compete at the conference meet on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. at Carleton College.
