Road Is Unkind To Cobbers

ST. PETER, Minn. (10/10/23)---The road was unkind to the Cobbers for the second straight match. Concordia was swept for the second time in four days, falling 25-12, 25-20, 25-15 at No.19-ranked Gustavus.

The loss is the third consecutive in conference play for Concordia after they opened the year with three straight league wins. CC is now 11-9 in all matches and 3-3 in the MIAC. Gustavus wins for the seventh time in the last eight matches and remains unbeaten in league play. They are 6-0 in the MIAC and 17-4 overall.

The Cobbers could never get their offense on track in St. Peter. They finished with 26 kills and hit .131 for the three sets. Both numbers are conference lows for CC. Concordia's best hitting bout of the night came in the second set where they hit .200 and had 12 kills. The middle set was tied at 16-16 before the Gusties went on a 3-0 run. The Cobbers got to within two points at 21-19, but then GAC went on a 4-1 streak to close out the 25-20 win.

Senior Brook Carney had a team-high eight kills to go along with five digs. Fellow senior Karlie Goschen posted a team-high 11 digs, while Kaia Lill added 12 assists and 10 digs. It was Goschen's fourth time in the last six matches with a double-digit dig total, and it was the third double-double for Lill in the previous five matches.

UP NEXT: Concordia will step out of conference play over the weekend. The Cobbers will face Wis.-River Falls at St. Benedict on Saturday, Oct. 14 and then match up with Minn.-Morris directly after that match.
