Keil's Career-High Kill Total Pushes Cobbers Past Comets

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/27/22)---Concordia used a career-high 17 kills from sophomore Hannah Keil to roll past Mayville State 3-1 (25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 25-23).

The win snaps several streaks for the Cobbers. The victory ends a 7-match winless streak, and stops a 6-match skid against the Comets. The last time CC beat Mayville State was 2013.

Concordia outhit the Comets at the net. CC had 56 kills and posted an attack percentage of .173, while Mayville State hit .155 and came away with 50 winners.

The Cobbers hit at least .130 in all four sets and posted a match-high .208 mark in the opening set.   

Not only did Keil lead Concordia in winners, she also came through the kill on match point. The left-handed right-side hitter consistently hammered the ball past the Mayville State block and into open spaces in the middle of the court. Keil finished with a career-high .325 attack percentage.

Junior setter Kaia Lill did a solid job of finding Lill on the right side of the front line and made sure she got the ball late in the match-winning fourth set. Lill finished with 50 assists which marks the second time this season she has reached the 50-helper plateau.

Lill now has 455 assists for the season which is the second most of any player in the conference.

Senior Anna Brakke had the best 2-way match of any Cobbers en route to her fifth double-double of the season. She ended the match with 14 kills and 17 digs. Brakke now leads the team with 125 kills on the year.

Fellow senior Brook Carney was the third member of Concordia to come up with a double-digit kill total. She hit .222 on the night and put up 13 winners. The 13 kills ties a career high which she has had on three other occasions.   

Chloe Markovic and Hanna Mooney spearheaded the Cobber defense. Markovic came through with a team-high 22 digs, while Mooney made several diving plays to save rallies and posted 11 digs.

Markovic now has recorded at least 20 digs in six matches, including two of the last three. She has 254 for the year which is fourth most in the MIAC. Mooney ties her season-high in digs. She has recorded 11 digs in four different matches this year.

UP NEXT: Concordia will return to conference play when they head to St. Paul to take on St. Catherine on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
