Faster, Higher, Farther Marks As Cobbers Roll Into Season

FARGO, N.D. (2/03/24)---The times are starting to get faster, the heights are becoming higher and the distances are farther as Concordia starts to go deeper into the indoor season.

The Cobbers came away with a boatload of season-best and conference Top 10 marks at the NDSU Bison Open and Multi-Event in the third event of the season.

Sophomore Emily Rengo led the way for Concordia as she came through with a lightning-fast time in the 60-meter dash. She opened the event by recording a time of 8.03 in the fourth heat of the prelims. That mark was good enough to qualify for the finals in the event which featured 30 competitors from NCAA Division I and II and regional NAIA athletes.

Rengo wasn't done "going low" as she did her prelim time .05 of a second better in the finals by crossing the line in 7.98 seconds. That time earned her a 6th-place finish beating out the top runners from UND. Rengo's finals time is only the second time in school history that an athlete has gone below 8.0 seconds. It is the second fastest time in program history – only .03 of a second off of tying the program record.

Rengo also had a program Top 15 time in the 400 meters. She ran a 60.73, which is No.11 on Concordia's all-time list, and also tied for the seventh fastest in the MIAC this year.

The 400 also produced another Cobber Top 15 all-time mark and a Top 5 conference time. Teammate Kyla Nygaard sped around the track to clock a 59.99. It is the third fastest time in the MIAC this year and only the seventh time in program history that someone has run a sub-1-minute 400 meters.

Like Rengo, Nygaard also doubled up on the Top 15 Cobber marks. Her second top mark came in the 200 meters where she cruised to a time of 27.11 which is in the Top 10 of the conference and No.11 on the school's all-time list.

The 200 meters also allowed first-year track athlete Andie Sandman a chance to add her name to the Concordia all-time lists. She crossed the line in 27.08, which is No.9 on the all-time list and No.9 in the conference this year.

Senior Peyton Selle kicked off her final multi-event season by posting a score of 3,114 points in the pentathlon. That total is No.2 in the MIAC this year. During the pentathlon, Selle posted a distance of 17-00.50, which is No.11 on the CC all-time list.

Junior Jenna Kalevik also competed in the pentathlon and finished with a career-best score of 2,727 points, which is No.5 in the conference this year.

Kalevik also posted a career-high height of 5-01.75 in the high jump during the pentathlon. That mark is tied for third in the MIAC this year and No.15 on the program's all-time list.

UP NEXT: Concordia will compete in its first meet against a majority of Division III schools when they participate in the St. Benedict Invite on Saturday, Feb. 10 at St. John's University.
