A Chilly Senior Celebration Day

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/29/16)--- Playing in temeratures in the low 40's and with a chilly 10-15 mph wind, Concordia gave up three goals in a span of 12 minutes in the second half and lost 3-0 to St. Catherine on the final game of the 2016 season.

The Cobbers and Wildcats battled through a scoreless first half before the Wildcats opened up the game with the trio of goals 18 minutes into the second half.

The loss ends Concordia's season with a 4-11-3 overall record and a 1-9-1 mark in the MIAC. The win helps St. Catherine clinch a spot in the conference playoffs. The Wildcats will be the No.4 seed for the tournament after finishing with a 6-4-1 record in league play. SCU wins its second straight and heads into the postseason with an 11-5-1 overall mark.

Concordia was never able to get anything going in the final 20 yards of the field. The Cobbers traded possession with the Wildcats in the middle portion of the field but couldn't find the final pass to free a player for a quality chance.

Junior Alexandra Jones has a chance from outside the penalty area 2-minutes into the game but her shot sailed wide of the frame. Senior Emily Payne also had a shot go wide early in the game that could have changed the tempo.

The Cobbers sarted the second half the same way they started the game – on the offensive attack. Senior Paige McCullough sent a shot wide of the target in the first four minutes of the second period. CC then had its first corner kick of the game at the 49:40 mark.

Concordia would have one more foray at the Wildcat goal before the decisive 12-minute period where SCU scored three times. The Cobbers had a corner kick at 58:50 which gave senior Erika Grinde a chance for a shot but her attempt on net went high of the mark.

St. Catherine then won the game with goals at 63:24, 66:24 and 75:12.

The Wildcats finished the game with a 15-7 edge in total shots for the game. Payne and McCullough both had two shots each to lead CC.

Cobber goalie Maddy Reed made four saves in the game and finished the season with 74 saves.
