Cobbers Celebrate Seniors Before St. Olaf Series Finale

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/27/24)---Concordia finished off its series with St. Olaf by allowing a pair of goals in the first period and then two more in the third frame and lost 4-0.  

The game was a part of the annual Senior Celebration Day for the Cobbers.

Concordia (5-13-1, 1-10-1 MIAC) fell behind in the first minute of play when the Oles got the puck deep in the CC zone, came out from the left corner and then chipped the puck into the top right corner of the net.

The goal at the 37-second mark forced the Cobbers to chase the game for a full 59:23.

St. Olaf (8-11-0, 2-10-0) scored in the final 2 minutes of the opening frame when they were able to take advantage of a loose puck in the Concordia end after CC had gone on a power play. The shorthanded strike sent the teams into the first intermission with a 2-0 score line.

Neither team was able to get on the board in the second period. The Oles put the game out of reach in the third minute of the final period of play. They were awarded a power play at the 48-second mark and waited until there were 8 seconds left in the player advantage to post their third goal of the game.

The final tally came at 18:03 which pushed the final score to 4-0.

The Cobbers were outshot 28-26 in the game, but held a 52-47 advantage in the 2-game series.

McKenzie Oelkers and Paige Hanson had four shots each to lead Concordia.

Senior goalie Becca Macklin made 24 saves in the team's final game at the Moorhead Sports Center this season.

UP NEXT: Concordia will travel to Minneapolis to face Augsburg in a 2-game series on Feb. 2-3.
