Goal Streaks Go Against Cobbers In Series Opener

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/01/23)---Concordia lost the game of goal streaks against Hamline in the series opener in Moorhead. The Cobbers scored two consecutive goals in the third period, but the Pipers countered with three goals in the first two periods and two more after Concordia's streak and handed CC a 5-2 loss.

Hamline (6-2-0, 4-1-0 MIAC) scored a pair of goals 2:49 apart in the opening period and took a 2-0 lead into the first break. They added a single goal in the second period and led 3-0 after 40 minutes of play.

Concordia (2-5-1, 0-4-1) cut the lead to a single goal with strikes in the first minute and then the 12th minute before Hamline closed out the scoring with an insurance goal at 13:35 and an empty-net tally at 18:51.

Morgan Sauvageau got the Cobbers on the board at the start of the third period. Lila Lanctot collected the puck at the left point after a clearing attempt from the Pipers. She fired a shot on net, it deflected off of Sauvageau's skate in the faceoff circle and the redirection fooled the HU goalie as the puck slid into the far side of the net.

The goal at the 37-second mark was Savaugeau's third of the year and third in the last four games. She is now tied for the team lead in goals.

The second strike also came courtesy of a shot from the point of Lanctot's blade. She got control of the puck on the power play and let go a wrist shot that found its way through traffic and into the back of the net. The game's second goal was Lanctot's first collegiate goal and brought CC to within one at 3-2 with 8:21 left in the period.

Sauvageau and senior Grace Doerring were awarded the assists on the goal.

That would be as close as the Cobbers would get. The Pipers scored on a rebound at 13:35 and then finished off the score line with an empty-netter only 16 seconds after Concordia pulled goalie Kate Stephens for an extra attacker.

Concordia was outshot 26-16 in the game. The Cobbers went 1-for-4 on the power play, and Hamline scored in its only power play attempt.

Stephens made 21 saves in the game for CC.
