21-Second Span Decides Series Opener With St. Scholastica

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/13/23)---Concordia gave up a pair of goals 21-seconds apart at the end of the second period and lost 2-0 to St. Scholastica in the first game of a 2-game series.

The teams were dead even for 59:39 of the contest, but it was the span at the end of the middle frame that decided the outcome.

The Cobbers and Saints were deadlocked in the shot department with each team posting 26 shots in the game. Both teams were whistled for four penalties in the game, and both went scoreless on their four power play attempts.

Concordia (3-11-0, 0-7-0 MIAC) held a 9-6 advantage in shots on the first period, but neither team had a clear quality chance to score.

The second period was more of the same until the final 1:35 of the frame.

St. Scholastica (4-7-1, 3-4-0 MIAC) scored the game-winning goal after the regained control of the puck in the Cobber zone and fired a shot from the left faceoff circle that snuck under the top left corner of the net. The goal at 18:25 started the 2-goal spree. The second strike came at 18:46 on a centering pass to a wide open player at the top of the CC crease.

Cobber goalie Kiana Flaig made 24 saves. Junior Paige Hanson posted a team-high four shots on goal, while Abbey Hardwick, Lexi Woodward, Morgan Sauvageau, Josie Hell and Jerica Friese all had three shots each.
