End-To-End Special Leads To Overtime Tie

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/07/14)—Concordia and St. Olaf went end-to-end for an entire 65 minutes but couldn't score more than two goals and wound up playing to a 1-1 overtime tie.

The Cobbers scored midway through the first period and the Oles scored their lone goal midway through the second frame to complete the scoring and give each team a single point in the MIAC standings.

Concordia extends its unbeaten streak to seven games and is now 8-8-4 overall and 7-4-2 in league play. With the point for the ties, the Cobbers jump into sole possession of fourth place in the conference standings. St. Olaf maintains its quest for one of the five league playoff spots and is now 5-14-1 in all games and 5-7-1 in the MIAC.

Bekah Wright was in the right spot at the right time to redirect a shot from the point to pick up her first goal of the season. Chelsey Petrich and Abby Taffe were given the assists on the play.

Cobber goalie Madison Denny kept the Oles off the board for the first 20 minutes of play to stake CC to a 1-0 lead after the first period. The shutout would hold steady until the 8:22 mark when St. Olaf forward Devyn Hotho slammed home her first goal of the year on a rebound after a scrum in front of the Concordia goal.

The remaining 8-minutes of the second period, the entire third period and then overtime featured full rink rushed by both teams with little zone time and few quality chances.

Neither team was able to convert on the power play as well. Concordia was 0-for-3 in their power play situations while the Oles were held scoreless in their four power play attempts.

The Cobbers wound up outshooting the Oles by a slim 27-24 margin for the game.

Denny turned aside 23 of the 24 shots she face and has now been in goal for all four of the Concordia ties this season. St. Olaf netminder Cassie Alexander made 26 saves and is now 4-6-1.

The two teams will continue to make their push for the playoffs when they square off against each other on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead Youth Rink.
