Recipe For Success Leads To Tasty Win

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/22/22)---Good things usually happen when you take 27 more shots, force 12 more turnovers than your opponent and have all five of your starting players score at least 10 points. That's the recipe that Concordia cooked up in a decisive 95-67 win over St. Olaf.

The Cobbers had 73 field goal attempts in the game which is the most in a single game since the season opener in the 2013-14 season when CC jacked up 74 shots in an 88-42 win over Houghton. It's also the most in a conference game since the 2011-12 season when they hoisted 77 in a win at St. Kate's.

The 95 points scored by Concordia is the most in the Kim Wagers era and most since the 2017-18 season when they beat Finlandia 95-52.

The Cobber starting five of Autumn Thompson, Carlee Sieben, Emily Beseman, Makayla Anderson and Symone Beld all scored in double figures to help CC post its third straight win to start the season. The last time Concordia started the year with three straight victories was 2010-11 when they went 6-0 to open the schedule and went on to win the MIAC playoff championship and advance to the NCAA tournament.  

Concordia wasted little time in setting the pace for the night. CC went 4-for-8 from 3-point range and 8-for-8 from the free throw line as they bolted to a 28-18 lead after the first quarter of play.

The Cobbers slowed down in the second quarter, but then found the high gear in the second half when they outscored the Oles 50-27 in the final 20 minutes of play. In the end, Concordia scored at least 24 points in three of the four quarters as they led from start to finish, and never led by fewer than 16 points in the final period of play.

Concordia finished the game by shooting 47.9% (35-for-73) from the field and 40.0% (12-for-30) from outside the arc. The Cobbers also continued their hot streak from the free throw line. CC was 13-for-15 (86.7%) from the foul stripe, and hasn't shot worse than 85.7% from the free throw line in the first three games this year. Concordia is shooting 88.6% from the foul stripe which leads the MIAC.

Beseman finished with a team-high 20 points, while Beld had 14, Anderson chipped in 13, Sieben added 12 and Thompson finished with 10. Anderson also had a team-high nine rebounds.

Greta Tollefson added a sixth player in double figures for the Cobbers. The sophomore came off the bench to post a career-high 17 points in 24 minutes played. Her previous career high was eight points which came last season.

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will face their toughest test of the season when they host Gustavus on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 4 p.m. The Gusties are also unbeaten on the year and are the defending MIAC playoff champions.
