Scoring Surges Lead To MIAC-Opening Win

ST. PAUL, Minn. (12/05/13)—Concordia forced 22 turnovers and used scoring surges at the end of each half to pull away from Macalester and beat the Scots 69-54 in the MIAC opener for both teams.

The game turned into a contest of runs early in the opening period with each team trying to pull away from the other before the momentum would swing. The Cobbers had the final say in the back-and-forth battle in both halves. Concordia closed out the first half with a 9-0 run in the final 2:13 of play and then closed out the game with a 15-4 run in the final 6:18 of regulation.

Concordia is now 3-1 on the season while Macalester falls to 1-4 on the season.

The Cobbers' full-court presence led to 22 Scot miscues and helped CC score 18 points off of  those turnovers. Concordia has now forced at least 20 turnovers in all four games this season.

Senior guard Erika Jossart led Concordia in scoring. She was one of three Cobber players to score in double figures and finished with a season-high 16 points. Jossart was 4-for-5 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the free throw line. She also added a team-high six rebounds and three assists.
