A Pair Of Wilde - And Drama Filled - Games In Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. (3/06/23)---Senior Molly Wilde went yard and extended her team-leading hit streak to nine games in the Cobbers' two games on Monday. Unfortunately for Concordia, Wilde's offensive success wasn't enough as they lost a pair of drama-filled games to teams from Pennsylvania. CC fell 6-2 to Allegheny (Pa.) in 8 innings in the opener and then 12-5 to Penn St.-Brandywine in the days' finale.

The two losses drop the Cobbers' overall record to 2-8 on the year. CC is still looking for its first win in Florida on their annual spring trip.

Concordia came up with their second-highest hit total of the season in the game against Brandywine. The Cobbers scored five times on eight hits. They posted three runs on three hits in the third, and then scored two more times in the sixth when they once again had three hits in the frame.

Wilde had the biggest hit of the game for the CC offense. She deposited the ball over the right-field fence for the Earl Weaver, 3-run homer special. Kate Wensloff started the rally with a 1-out single to left, and then Gabriella Castro kept the inning alive with a 2-out double down the 3rd-base line.

Wilde came through with the long ball that brought Concordia within three runs at 6-3. The homer was Wilde's team-leading second of the season.

The two other Cobber runs were also delivered with one awing of the bat. Freshman Kayley Bosc recorded her first collegiate hit in her first collegiate at-bat when she singled up the middle to lead off the sixth inning.

Ellie Tofteland singled in the very next at-bat to give CC runners on first and second with no one out. After an infield pop up, senior Drew Syverson delivered a double to right field that plated both Bosc and Tofteland.

Reese Hauck and Emma Redlin had the other hits in the game for CC against Brandywine.

The Cobbers used five pitchers in the game. Freshman Marissa Piasecki went the longest as she pitched 2.1 innings and struck out one.

The opener against Allegheny was the most dramatic of the day as Concordia scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and send it into extra innings.

The Cobbers gave up single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to set the stage for the 2-out, late-game excitement.

Once again it was Wilde that set the stage. She led off the inning with a double to left field. Castro reached on a throwing error from the third baseman that sent Wilde to third base. A pair of outs followed the 1st-and-3rd situation, before Redlin came up with a clutch game-tying double to right field. It was Redlin's first extra-base hit of the year and tied the game at 2-2.

The eighth inning was all Allegheny. They scored four runs, three of which came with two outs in the inning.

Junior Karissa Finnigan was a factor at the plate and in the circle. She had two of the team's four hits in the game, and also pitched the first 7.0 innings. It was her first multiple-hit game of the year, while the 7.0 innings pitched is her longest outing of the season. Finnigan allowed only one earned in the game and struck out four.

UP NEXT: Concordia will play two more games on Tuesday, Mar. 7. The Cobbers will open with Pitt-Greensburg at 1 p.m. and then cap the day by facing Rivier (N.H.) at 3:30 p.m.
