Cobbers Drop First Home Game Of 2023

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/18/23)---Concordia was outscored 19-8 in the final 9-minutes of its conference game with Augsburg and fell 71-66 in the first home game of the 2023 calendar year.

The Cobbers took a 6-point lead at 58-52 on a Jacob Cook layup with 9:11 left in the second half, but then the Auggies went on their game-winning stretch to secure the victory.

Concordia (6-11, 4-8 MIAC) shot 42.9% (24-for-56) from the field and 37.5% (9-for-24) from outside the arc. The Cobbers also connected on 69.2% (9-for-13) from the foul line.

Augsburg (6-10, 4-8 MIAC) held a 30-21 advantage in rebounds, and a 34-18 edge in points in the paint. The Auggies shot 51.0% (25-for-49) from the field, 31.6% (6-for-19) from distance and 68.2% (15-for-22) from the free throw line.

Junior Matthew Johnson led a quartet of Cobber players who all scored in double figures. Johnson finished with 16 points to go along with six assists and two rebounds.

Senior guard Jackson Jangula was 5-for-8 from the field, and had 13 points. He also put up four steals and three assists.

Like Jangula, Alex Huber also went 5-for-8 from the floor and finished with 13 points. He came down with six boards and added three assists.

Rowan Nelson led CC with seven rebounds. He recorded 10 points and has now posted a double-digit point total in 15 straight games.
