First-Half Point Strings Prove Costly at Bethel

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (12/08/21)---Concordia conceded point-streak strings of 12-0 and 17-2 in the first half and lost 83-60 at Bethel.

The other big differences in the game came around the basket and the Royals' ability to convert after coming up with a steal. Bethel held a 52-26 advantage in points in the paint, and a 21-3 edge in points off of turnovers.

The loss is the second straight for the Cobbers who fall to 2-5 on the year. CC is now 1-3 in conference play. Bethel extends its win streak to three games, and is now 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC.

The game was tied at 4-4 after 5-minutes of play in the first half, before the Royals went on a 12-0 run to seize momentum in the game. The Cobbers cut the lead to four points at 16-12, but BU responded with a 17-2 stretch to push the margin to 19 points and force CC to try and chase the game for the final 25 minutes of play.

Concordia shot 40.0% (22-for-55) from the floor for the game. CC also shot 36.4% (6-for-19) from outside the arc and 61.5% (10-for-15) from the free throw line.

The Royals made 10 more field goals than the Cobbers and shot 54.2% (32-for-59) from the floor. BU also had a 26.1% (6-for-23) mark from distance and shot 81.3% (13-for-16) from the line.

Concordia was led by a trio of freshmen. Rowan Nelson had team-highs in points (19) and rebounds (7). He has led the team in scoring in two consecutive games and three of the last four. Nelson has now scored at least 10 points in all six games this year, and leads the team with a 16.0 ppg average.  

Zach Jackson went 3-for-5 from outside the arc, and recorded a season-high 13 points – 10 of which came in the second half.

Dylan Inniger had seven points in the opening period of play and came away with 11 points and four rebounds. He has now posted a double-digit point total in three of his last four games.  
    
UP NEXT:  Concordia will stay on the road to finish off their 2021 conference play. The Cobbers will head back to the St. Paul area to take on Hamline on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m.
