Bormann Grabs First College Win In Home Opener

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/13/21)---It was a long time coming, but Tyler Bormann finally earned his first collegiate victory.

Bormann, who only had four games in his college debut season last year, led Concordia to a victory in the second game of the 2022 campaign.

The win was anything but ordinary for the Cobbers, who never trailed for the final 27:09 of the game, but needed a lay-up from junior Jackson Jangula with 1:30 left in regulation to earn a 66-64 win over Martin Luther in the home opener.

The victory also evens Concordia's season mark, while the Knights fall to 0-4 on the year.

The Cobbers win came courtesy of their shooting percentage and advantage in points in the paint. CC shot 48.3% (28-for-58) from the floor as compared to a 40.7% (22-for-54) mark for Martin Luther. Concordia's shooting edge was helped by a sizable 46-28 advantage in points in the paint.

Braeton Motschenbacher led the Cobbers in scoring. The junior went 9-for-12 from the floor and finished one point shy of his second straight 20-point game to start the year. Motschenbacher ended the game with 19 points and had five rebounds.

Freshman Rowan Nelson was the only other CC player who had a double-digit point total. He put up 14 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists.

Guard Talon Hoffer led all players with eight rebounds and four steals.

UP NEXT: Concordia will open conference play when they face Carleton in Northfield on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. The Knights are 0-1 on the year.
