Urie/Reiten Combo Not Enough At GAC

ST. PETER, Minn. (12/14/19)---Junior Bryden Urie's first career double-double wasn't enough to propel Concordia past Gustavus in the final game of the 2019 calendar year. The Cobbers never led in the game in St. Peter, made only three 3-pointers and fell 76-59 to the Gusties.

The Cobbers stayed within striking distance of Gustavus for the first half of the opening period but then an 8-0 run pushed the lead to double digits and Concordia would trail 44-36 at the break. The Cobbers then responded in the second half and cut the deficit to five points with 16:45 left to play but a 9-2 stretch put GAC back in front by over 10 points – a lead they would have for the remainder of the game.

The loss drops Concordia's record to 2-7 in all games and the Cobbers are still looking for their first conference win as they fall to 0-5 in league play. Gustavus ups its record to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the MIAC.

The shooting numbers were very similar for both teams. Concordia shot 39.4% (26-for-66) from the floor and 30.0% (3-for-10) from outside the arc while the Gusties connected at a 45.2% (28-for-62) rate from the field and a 31.8% (7-for-22) clip from 3-point range. The four more made shots from long range proved to be a big difference in the game.

Concordia held a 40-35 edge in rebounds and a 36-34 lead in points in the paint.

Urie and senior center John Reiten accounted for 30 of the team's 59 points.

Urie recorded game highs in both points and rebounds. He scored 18 points and grabbed a career-high 10 boards. Reiten was 5-for-12 from the floor and netted 12 points.

A pair of front court players also had all-around games. Junior Jacob Fredrickson went for seven points and seven rebounds while Ty Setness came off the bench to put up eight points and five rebounds.
