17 + 17 = 32

MOORHEAD, MInn. (2/11/15)—Tom Fraase scored 17 points and Jordan Bolger grabbed 17 rebounds to help Concordia outlast Gustavus 58-51. The win completes the regular-season sweep for the Cobbers which is the first time in 32 years that Concordia has swept the Gusties.  

Fraase went 6-for-9 from the floor, 2-for-3 from outside the arc and 3-for-4 from the free throw line as he posted a season-high 17 points while Bolger also scored 10 points to collect his sixth double-double of the season. The 17 rebounds are also a career high for Bolger.

In addition to the win helping the Cobbers get the series sweep over Gustavus, it also pushes Concordia into sole possession of fifth place in the MIAC standings. The Cobbers are now 9-7 in league play which is one game behind a two-way tie for third place and one game ahead of a two-way tie for sixth place. CC is now 13-8 in overall games and has won three of its last four games and five of the last seven.

Gustavus (12-9/8-8 MIAC) led for most of the first half but it was Concordia that went into the dressing room with a halftime lead because they were able to score four of the final six points in the period.

The second half would feature six tie scores and seven lead changes. Concordia earned the win by making shots and causing turnovers in the final four minutes of play. The Cobbers trailed 46-45 heading into the final four minutes but then went 3-for-4 from the field, 4-for-5 from the free throw line and forced three turnovers to outscore the Gusties 13-5 and win by seven.

Concordia earned the win despite their top two scorers going 6-for-25 (24.0%) from the floor. Bolger was 2-for-12 from the field while Brandon Giese was 4-for-13.

Concordia vs. Gustavus Highlights - Feb. 11, 2014

Giese finished with 11 points and was one of four Cobber starters to finish in double figures in scoring. Giese has now scored at least 10 points in seven straight games.

Senior center Scott Flotterud provided a solid presence around the basket the entire game and came away with 11 points after going 5-for-8 from the floor. The 11 points is a season high. Flotterud also grabbed six rebounds.  Flotterud is averaging 8.2 points and 7.7 rebounds in the last four games.

Concordia finished the night by shooting 37.0% (20-for-54) from the floor and 35.3% (6-for-17) from outside the arc. Gustavus shot 40.4% (19-for-47) from the floor but made just two shots from 3-point range (2-for-7).

The biggest statistical advantage for the Cobbers came in turnovers. CC forced 16 Gustie miscues while only turning the ball over nine times on offense.

The Cobbers will look to extend their winning ways when they host No.2-ranked St. Thomas on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m.
