Post-Upset Letdown Dooms Cobbers

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/23/13)—Two days after pulling off the biggest win in program history, Concordia suffered through a post-game letdown and fell 79-72 at Carleton.

The Cobbers only lead of the game came at 2-0 but then the Knights were able to rattle off 12 of the next 14 points and never looked back. Concordia was able to get to within four points with less than three minutes to play in the second half only to watch Carleton record six of the next seven points to grab a 75-66 lead with less than a minute to play.

Despite the loss, Concordia remains in sole possession of third place. The Cobbers are now 8-5 in league play and .5 games ahead of Carleton. CC is 11-7 overall. The Knights win for the fourth time in the last six games and are now 7-5 in the MIAC and 10-7 in all games.

The difference in the game came from shooting performance and the play of Carleton senior Scott Theisen who recorded an impressive triple-double – scoring a game-high 22 points, coming away with 12 rebounds and adding 10 assists.

Concordia shot 39.4% (26-for-66) from the floor and 32.1% (9-for-28) from 3-point range as compared to 50.9% (29-for-57) from the field and 46.7% (7-for-15) from outside the arc for the Knights.

The Cobbers had four players score in double figures. Ebo Nana-Kweson had a team-high 18 points. Andrew Martinson came off the bench to supply 14 points and Aaron Lindahl and Dewon McKenzie had 12 each. Scott Flotterud grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and also had seven points.

Concordia will return home and look to pick up the Memorial Auditorium magic when they host Augsburg on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 3 p.m. The Cobbers are 6-1 at home this year with their only loss coming against a tough Division II MSU Moorhead squad.
