Balance & Season-Best Times Lead To 7th-Place Finish

LA CROSSE, Wis. (10/15/21)---Concordia had an unexpected 3-week break between competitions and used that time to train for the upcoming MIAC Meet. The training paid off sooner than expected as every Cobber athlete posted a season-best time which helped the team finish seventh in the 20-team Tori Neubauer Invite hosted by Wis.-La Crosse.

The Cobbers used the balance of their team to record their Top 10 team finish.  They didn't have a runner finish in the Top 30, but had all five athletes post scoring positions in the Top 70 as they finished with a final team score of 249. That total was only 15 points from a Top 6 finish. Concordia was the third highest, out of seven MIAC teams in the meet.

The Cobber Top 2 tandem of freshman Drew Frolek and senior Isabel Fredrickson finished within 10 seconds of one another and both were in the Top 50 of the invite that had 283 runners.

Frolek covered the 6K course in a time of 23:26.47 which was good for 38th place – and 30th for scoring purposes. Her time is the fastest for a 6K course this year. Her previous best came at the Carleton Invite on Sept. 25 when she ran a 24:04.00.

Like Frolek, Fredrickson also ran a season-best time for the distance. She crossed the line in 23:35.26 which placed her 44th in the race. Fredrickson's previous best in a 6K was 24:25.00.

Amelia Landsverk and Eden Smith ran together for the duration, and finished within 3-seconds of one another. Landsverk was the team's No.3 finisher with a time of 24:15.57, while Smith was right behind at 24:17.31.

Both runners bettered their season-best 6K times, and for Landsverk it marked the second time in 2021 that she has been the team's No.3 finisher.

Senior Kaitlyn Rooney was the team's No.5 finisher and helped the Cobbers earn the 7th-place finish. She posted a time of 24:29.58 which gave her the No.69 spot in the scoring standings. Like the other four top Cobber finishers, her time was a 6K season best.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have a shorter, 2-week break to train for the MIAC Championship Meet which will be held at St. Olaf on Saturday, Oct. 30.
