Andersen Again

MOORHEAD, Minn. (8/31/18)---Kara Andersen loves running on the campus of Concordia. The junior won her second straight Cobber Invite and helped CC beat Minn.-Morris and Bethany Lutheran to win the team title.

The team victory also gave first-year head coach Laura Januszewski her first collegiate win in the very first meet.

Concordia had four of the Top 5 finishers in the meet and came away with seven athletes in the Top 10.

In 2017 Andersen won the season-opening race by over 15 seconds. This year's race was much closer as she had to hold off a late charge and wound up crossing the tape a mere .03 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Andersen completed the 5K course in a time of 20:16.1.

Andersen has won two college cross country meets and both have come at the Cobber Invite.

Andersen was a part of a group of four Cobber runners who all finished in the Top 5 of the meet. Senior Brianna Gruenberg placed third with a time of 20:26. She was 25 seconds ahead of the duo of Meritt Miller and Tarja Nelson. Miller, competing in her very first college meet, placed fourth with a time of 20:51. Nelson was right behind in fifth place at 20:56.

The final Top 10 finishers for the Cobbers were all newcomers. Emily Rugloski was seventh in a time 21:13 while cross country newcomer Miriah Forness was eighth at 21:37. Another cross country newcomer Josie Hermann placed ninth with a mark of 21:42.

UP NEXT: Concordia will stay in town and compete in the MSU Moorhead Twilight Meet on Friday, Sept. 7 at 8:10 p.m. at the Moorview Soccer Complex in Moorhead.
