Gruenberg Leads Winning Charge

ST. BONAFACIUS, Minn. (10/15/16)—Concordia finished with the Top 3 runners, eight of the Top 9 and won the St. Bonifacius Invite hosted by Crown College.

The win at the invite comes after the Cobbers had finished second at the meet the past two seasons.

Running on a wet, and sometimes slippery, course Cobber sophomore Brianna Gruenberg won the individual competition by posting a time of 24:34 over the 6K course. Her time beat teammate Sarah Curran by 17 seconds. Gruenberg earned her first meet win since middle school as she continues her breakout season for Concordia.

Curran crossed the line in 24:51 which was less than 10-seconds ahead of Kaya Baker who finished third with a time 25:03.

The Top 3 Cobbers at the meet have been the team's Top 3 runners throughout the season. Gruenberg has led CC in three of the six meets while Curran has paced the team in the other three.

Sara Whiteman gave Concordia four harriers under the 26-minute mark. She placed fifth with a mark of 25:57.0.

Freshman Kara Andersen was followed by sophomores Maria West, Tarja Nelsen and Laura Kisner to give CC eight of the Top 9 times at the meet.

Andersen was sixth at 26:00. The three sophomores finished within 12 seconds of one another. West crossed the line in 26:25. She was trailed by Nelsen at 26:32 and then Kisner at 26:37.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will now have a two-week break as they prepare for the MIAC Championship Meet on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. at Como Park GC in St. Paul.
