Cobbers Start Final Road Weekend Doubleheader
Concordia opened its final road conference weekend doubleheader by dropping a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-23) decision at Bethel.
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (10/25/24)---Concordia opened its final road conference weekend doubleheader by dropping a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-23) decision at Bethel.
The Cobbers are now 2-20 in all matches and 2-5 in the MIAC. Bethel remains unbeaten in league play and moves to 17-5 overall and 7-0 in the conference.
Concordia's best set came in the third. After hitting .096 and .056 in the first two sets, the Cobbers posted an attack percentage of .216 in the third. The first two sets featured a combined 5 tie scores and two lead changes, while the third set had a total of seven tie scores and four lead changes.
The Cobbers had leads of 19-18 and 22-21, but each time the Royals were able to come up with the key next point. After Concordia took a 22-21 lead, Bethel struck back by winning two straight points and four of the final five points.
Concordia finished the match by hitting .120 and had 33 kills. It marked the third time in the last four matches that CC has had an attack percentage of at least .120.
Mallory Leitner had a team-high 10 kills and hit .139. The 10 winners mark the second time this season that Leitner has recorded a double-digit kill total in three sets.
Maria Watt led the front-liners with a .316 attack percentage in 19 total attacks and finished with seven kills.
Senior Elizabeth Naugle led the defense with 18 digs. It is her eighth double-digit dig total of the season.
First-year athlete Cayla Sailer was the other Cobber player with a double-digit dig total. She finished with 14 digs. It is the fourth straight match she has posted at least 10 digs.
Betsy Schiltz posted a team-high 28 assists in the three sets. That total ties her season-high for assists in a 3-set match.
Concordia will finish off their away weekend by playing at Augsburg on Saturday, Oct. 26 a 7 p.m.
