First-Set Ending Dooms Cobbers In St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/05/24)---Concordia went from a 22-22 tie score in the first set to losing to Hamline 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-15) in a conference match played in St. Paul.
The Cobbers and Pipers were tied at 22-22 in the opening set in what appeared to be a match that could go to five sets. Concordia lost the next two points in the first set and three of the final four to drop a 25-23 decision.
Concordia never recovered from the hard-fought, opening-set loss as they gave up an 8-0 run in the second set and a 7-0 run in the third bout and fell in straight sets.
The Cobbers are now 1-16 in all matches and 1-2 in the MIAC. The Pipers move to 8-10 overall and a similar 1-2 in the conference.
Concordia hit .070 and had 20 kills as opposed to a .264 attack percentage with 48 winners for Hamline. It marks the 12th time this season that an opponent has hit over .200 against CC. The Cobbers have hit over .200 on one occasion this season.
First-year player Cayla Sailer led Concordia with six kills and hit .188. She also came through with a team-high 12 digs. It is the fifth straight match that she has posted a double-digit dig total.
Mallory Leitner and Jordyn Johnson both had four winners each.
Anna Knain recorded a team-high 18 assists.
Concordia will have an away-and-home conference doubleheader next weekend. CC will play at St. Catherine on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. and return home to host St. Scholastica on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m.
