Positive Start In Home Opener, But Cobbers Fall To Scots
The home opener started on a positive note for Concordia as they outlasted Macalester 25-23 to take a 1-0 lead in the conference-opening match for both teams. The match turned 180-degrees in the final stretch of the second set when the Scots won down the stretch and went on to post a 3-1 victory.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/26/24)---The home opener started on a positive note for Concordia as they outlasted Macalester 25-23 to take a 1-0 lead in the conference-opening match for both teams.
The match turned 180-degrees in the final stretch of the second set when the Scots closed out the bout with a 4-2 run and used that momentum in the third and fourth sets to come away with a 3-1 win (23-25, 25-21, 25-10, 25-15).
Concordia's top hitting set came in the second bout when they posted a .111 attack percentage. The Scots hit .405 in the third set which was their high-water mark.
The Cobbers recorded 31 kills and hit .063 for the match. Macalester finished the four sets by hitting .262 and knocked down 57 winners.
Senior Maria Watt and sophomore Samantha VanHeel led the CC offense with six kills each. Watt also posted a team-best .211 attack percentage. VanHeel hit .154 in the match.
First-year outside hitter Cayla Sailer had the best all-around match for Concordia. She had five kills to go along with 11 digs.
Sailer was one of three Cobber players to post a double-digit dig total. Elizabeth Naugle had a team-high 16 digs and Hanna Mooney matches Sailer's total with 11.
Junior Anna Knain had 16 assists in her first match since Sept. 10.
Concordia will stay at home and host St. Mary's on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2:30 p.m.
