Cobbers Serve Up Split At Stevens Point Quad

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (9/10/22)---Concordia split its two matches at the Wis.-Stevens Point Quadrangular Meet. The Cobbers beat Marian (Wis.) 3-1 (25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 25-15) and then lost to No.24-ranked Stevens Point 3-1 (25-12, 25-18, 23-25, 25-16).

The split pushes Concordia's season record to 2-5.

The Cobbers rolled past the Panthers in the day's opening match by hitting a season best .299. Concordia came away with 47 kills which is also a season high for non-5 set matches.

Concordia scored the first five points in their match with Marian as they set the tone for the contest right away. The Cobbers never trailed in the opening set, and took a 1-0 lead by winning five of the final eight points.

CC hit .455 in the opening set, and bettered that in the second set when they posted a .519 hitting percentage and had a match-high 16 kills. The Cobbers' attack percentage dropped below .100 in the third set, and then they closed out the contest by hitting .194 in the fourth set.

Anna Brakke and Mallory Leitner led the Cobbers at the net. Both players came away with 10 winners. Brakke hit .381 and also added four digs. Brook Carney had a match-high .571 attack percentage on her way to nine kills. Kaia Lill put up 40 assists, while Chloe Markovic captained the defense with 14 digs.


Concordia started the second match slower than the opener. They hit .171 in the first set and then .091 in the second set. The third set against the nationally-ranked Pointers might have been the Cobbers best set of the season. They hit .294 against one of the top front lines in the region. CC won the third set down the stretch where they overcame a 17-15 deficit, and won the final two points of the set on a Brakke kill and then a service ace.

Senior Kendra Wiggs had a team-high nine kills and posted a team-best .350 hitting percentage. She is now hitting .294 for the year which is No.5 in the MIAC.  

Brakke added eight more winners to finish with 18 for the day. Hannah Keil had seven kills against Stevens Point.

Lill had 30 more assists, finished the day with 70 helpers and now has 242 for the season which is fourth most in the MIAC.

Markovic came up with another 21 digs. She had 35 for the two matches, and now has 149 in the team's first seven matches which is second best in the conference.
