Cobbers Can't Get On Track Against #25 Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. (10/22/21)---Concordia dropped all three sets to No.25-ranked Gustavus on Friday and lost 18-25, 14-25, 11-25 in the first match of their road doubleheader weekend.

The loss ends the Cobbers' 2-match win streak and brings their overall record to 8-15 on the year. CC is 1-7 in conference play. The Gusties win for the ninth time in the past 10 matches and up their record to 21-5 in all matches and 7-1 in the MIAC.

Concordia was never able to get their frontline attack started and finished with an attack percentage of .057 for the night. CC never hit above .100 in any of the three sets.

The Gusties hit above .300 in all three sets and ended the match with a .391 mark. Gustavus also held a 53-19 advantage in kills for the night.

The Cobbers' solid service game was also nullified by Gustavus. Concordia, who was third in the MIAC in service aces heading into Friday night and had recorded 40 service winners in the last four matches, didn't have a single ace as the Gustie defense was on their toes all night long.

Brook Carney led the Cobber offense with five kills and hit .214. Hannah Keil had four winners and an attack percentage of .154, as the two combined for nine of the team's 19 kills.

Chloe Markovic posted 11 digs and Anna Brakke had eight to lead the CC defense.

Mariah Iwen had 10 assists for the Cobbers.

UP NEXT: Concordia will finish off their weekend on the road when they play at St. Olaf on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. The Oles are 10-12 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC. They lost 3-0 to St. Benedict on Friday night.
