Cobbs Fall At St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/11/19)---For the second straight contest, Concordia gave up a streak of points at the end of a set, could never rebound and lost the overall match.

On Tuesday the Cobbers were done in by a 3-point streak that turned a 23-22 lead into a 25-23 loss which eventually led to a 4-0 stretch in the next se and a loss to Minn.-Morris. On Friday Concordia led 23-21 in the second set and then gave up a 5-1 streak which eventually led to a 7-2 deficit in the third set and eventually a 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-9) loss at St. Olaf.

The loss drops the Cobbers' overall mark to 5-14 on the year. CC is 2-3 in conference play. The Oles win for the sixth straight match and are now 20-3 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC.

Concordia rallied to get to within three points at 14-11 in the first set but then St. Olaf went on a 7-3 streak to grab a 21-14 lead and take control of the opener.

The Cobbers led for most of the second set and held a 2-point lead in the back half of the set but the gave up the momentum-swinging rally and lost 26-24 after the Oles won two straight points with the set notched at 24-24.

Concordia finished the match hitting .074 as compared to .303 for St. Olaf. The Oles held a 54-26 advantage in kills and recorded 17 more digs.

Gabby DeBoer led the Cobbers in kills with five. That's the lowest total for a Cobber team leader this season. DeBoer also had 12 digs and two service aces.

Anna Brakke and Casey Coste both had 15 digs. Brakke also recorded four kills.

Jill Klaphake and Lexi Turn had identical assist totals. Both players finished with 10 helpers.

St. Olaf's outside setting kept the Cobbers' MIAC-leading block totals down. CC only had 4 blocks for the match which is the second lowest total of the season and fewest in eight matches.

UP NEXT: Concordia will stay on the road and finish off their road doubleheader. The Cobbers will play at St. Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
