An Opening-Weekend Split

THE STORY LINE: Concordia went 2-2 at the season-opening Northwestern (Minn.) Invite. The Cobbers beat Buena Vista 3-2 and St. Norbert 3-1 on Friday and were then swept by Wartburg and Northwestern on Saturday.

THE STATS: Senior Haley Cuppett led Concordia with 47 kills and recorded 53.5 points. Junior Brianna Carney posted a .202 attack percentage while sophomore Jill Klaphake had 85 assists and Casey Coste came away with 52 digs.

BEHIND THE STAT LINE: The Cobbers hit .200 or above in the first two matches but were then held under .200 in the losses on Saturday. In the two wins the Cobber defense held BVU and STN to under .175 for attack percentage while Wartburg hit .361 and Northwestern hit .250 on Saturday.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TIME: Freshman Anna Brakke was the lone Cobber selected to the All-Tournament Team. She had 25 kills and hit .159 for the four matches. She also had 23 digs and 26.5 points.

UP NEXT: Concordia will host Valley City State on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. and then head to St. Joseph to participate in the St. Ben's Invite on Sept. 7-8.
