Tough Up And Down Battle

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/06/17)---Concordia's back-and-forth match with Minn.-Morris ended "back" as the Cobbers dropped a (20-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 15-6) non-conference decision against the Cougars.

Concordia won the first and third sets while Morris countered with victories in the second and fourth. The Cobbers were unable to continue the back-and-forth pattern in the fifth set. They allowed seven straight points after the fifth set was 7-5 in favor of the Cougars and had their one-match win streak come to an end.

Concordia is now 4-11 in all matches this year. Morris wins for the 10th time in the last 11 matches and is now 19-5 for the year.

The Cobber defense was able to stop Morris in the first and third sets. CC held the Cougars to under a .050 attack percentage in their two set wins. Morris hit over .100 in their three set wins.

Concordia hit .000 for the match as opposed to .094 for Morris. UMM also held a 54-47 edge in kills.

The Cobbers had two players with 10 or more kills in the match. Brianna Carney had a team-high 13 winners while Emily Friedrich added 10 kills. Carney also hit a team-best .273 and had 33 total attack chances. She finished off her stat-filling match with a team-high five blocks.  

Jill Klaphake recorded 27 assists and Stephanie Baker collected 21 digs. Casey Coste added a career-high 19 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will have a pair of away matches next week. The Cobbers will play an MIAC match at Bethel on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. and then get a return match with the Cougars as they will play at Morris on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
