Palmer Named Assistant Volleyball Coach

MOORHEAD, Minn. (7/29/16)—Ashley Palmer has been named the new assistant coach at Concordia. Palmer takes over for Bob Jones who resigned from the position in the spring.

Palmer, formerly Ashley Beseman, was a four-year player for the Cobbers from 2008-11. She was a part of the Concordia team which won the MIAC regular season and tournament championships in 2011. The Cobbers went on to host the NCAA Regional and ended up losing in the region championship.

"I am very excited to be heading back to Concordia," Palmer stated. "It is a place that made a major impact on my life and I am pleased to be a part of the great program that Tim (head coach Tim Mosser) has developed."

Palmer comes to Concordia after serving as the head volleyball coach at Barnum High School in 2015. Palmer was also the head coach for the Duluth East High School squad in 2012 but then moved back to Moorhead to take a job as an admissions representative in 2014.

"Ashley brings an unbridled enthusiasm for the game and a tremendous passion for Concordia," said Mosser. "She will be a huge asset to the program and help with the continuity as we continue to build on our tradition.

Palmer was a stalwart on the Cobber front line in her playing days at Concordia. She helped the team win over 80 matches in her four seasons and win at least 20 matches in three of her four years. During her tenure Concordia the Cobbers went to four consecutive MIAC playoff tournaments and appeared in three NCAA tournaments.

Palmer finished her career by playing in over 160 matches and recording 424 kills and 240 blocks. She finished with a .241 career attack percentage and also had over 130 digs. Palmer was the team's representative on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team in 2011.

Palmer will be looking to help guide the Cobbers to another postseason appearance. Concordia is coming off its 14th MIAC playoff appearance in the past 15 years. The Cobbers finished with a 15-11 record in 2015 which marked the 10th time in the past 14 years that Concordia has had at least 15 wins in a season.

Concordia will open its 2016 campaign when they participate in the Northwestern (Minn.) tournament on Sept. 2-3.
