Schlosser & Kangas Drop The Hammer At Carleton

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (4/23/22)---Jacey Schlosser and Allyson Kangas went 1-2 in the hammer throw to lead Concordia at the Carleton Relays. Both athletes put up personal best marks in the event to help the Cobbers finish fourth in the team standings.

Schlosser won the hammer throw with a distance of 159-09. It is the first event win of her collegiate career and her winning mark is second best in the MIAC this season. Schlosser also climbs into the No.4 spot on the school's all-time list.

Kangas was less than two feet behind Schlosser and finished second. She came up with a personal best throw of 157-10 which is currently the third best in the MIAC this year and No.5 on the school's all-time list.

Schlosser and Kangas also finished in the Top 10 in the shot put and discus. Schlosser was ninth in the shot put at 36-08.50 and eighth in the discus with a mark of 114-03. Kangas backed up her second-place finish in the hammer with a third-place mark in the shot put. She came up with a distance of 40-04.25. Kangas placed 10th in the discus at 105-09.

Field teammate Cayle Hovland recorded Top 5 finishes in the shot put, discus and hammer. She was second in the shot put at 42-07.50, fourth in the discus at 122-00 and third in the hammer behind Schlosser and Kangas at 145-00. Hovland's distance in the hammer is a season best and sixth farthest in the MIAC this year.

Senior Emily White had the other Top 3 finish for the Cobber field crew. She dropped a season-best mark in the discus and finished third. Her distance of 122-10 is No.6 in the MIAC this year.  

A pair of freshmen had solid meets in both the field and track events for CC. Kiernan Darling, who also dives for the Cobber swim & dive team, finished fourth in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump. Jenna Kalevik was 10th in the high jump and 12th in the long jump. Both athletes also posted personal best times in the 100-meter hurdles.             

The Cobbers took a small contingent of track athletes to the meet. They were led by freshman Drew Frolek who posted the only Top 3 track finish on the day. She clocked a personal-best time of 2:24.42 in the 800 meters and placed third.   
    
UP NEXT: Concordia will travel west to Valley City for a midweek meet. The Cobbers are scheduled to compete in the VCSU Viking Open on Wednesday, Apr. 27 at 3 p.m.
