A Successful Start To The Outdoor Season

MORRIS, Minn. (04/02/22)---Concordia finally got the chance to start its outdoor season as they sent the majority of its squad to the Minn.-Morris Cougar Invitational, while a handful of athletes competed at the USD Early Bird Invitational.

The Cobbers used the strength of their sprint and throw teams to post six event wins at the Morris Invite and finish second in the final team standings.

Sierra Ramberg and Mary Wunderlich led the way for the speedsters. Ramberg won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.07, while Wunderlich claimed the top spot in the 200 meters with a mark of 27.77.

The 100 and 200-meter events saw the Cobbers post six Top5 finishes. In the 100 meters, Ramberg was joined by Carlie Heinecke who posted a personal best time of 13.24 and finished third. Wunderlich was fourth with a time of 13.24. Heinecke and Ramberg duplicated their Top 3 finishes in the 100 by placing second and third in the 200 meters.

Defending MIAC pentathlon champion Peyton Selle got off to a successful start to her outdoor season by winning both the 400-meter hurdles and long jump. She raced to a time of 1:12.37 in the hurdles and recorded a distance of 16-02.25 in the long jump.       

The throw trio of Cayle Hovland, Jacey Schlosser and Allyson Kangas kicked off their outdoor seasons by posting Top 5 finishes in the shot put, discus and hammer throws. Hovland was won the shot put with a distance of 43-06.50. That mark is second farthest in the MIAC this season. Hovland was also third in the discus at 118-05.00, which is also third best in the conference. Schlosser placed third in the shot put, fourth in the discus and fifth in the hammer throw, while Kangas won the hammer with a distance of 143-03.00. That mark is third best in the MIAC this year.

The two top marks from the USD Early Bird Meet came from the distance duo of Isabel Fredrickson and Drew Frolek. Fredrickson clocked a 4:51.32 in the 1500 meters which is the third fastest in the conference this season. Fredrickson's time is a personal best and No.13 on the school's all-time list.

Frolek went out and ran a 2:27.57 in the 800 meters and is No.8 on the MIAC list this year.       

UP NEXT: Concordia will look to continue the outdoor season when they compete in the St. Ben's Invite and Multi-Event on Apr. 9-10 at St. John's University.
