A Herd-Ful Of Conference Top 10 Marks At NDSU Open

FARGO, N.D. (02/05/22)---Youth was served at the NDSU Bison Open for the Cobbers. Sophomore Peyton Selle and freshman Drew Frolek led a herd of Concordia athletes who all put up conference Top 10 marks across the Red River.

Selle, the reigning MIAC heptathlon champion, competed in her first indoor multi-event of the year and placed seventh in the pentathlon at NDSU. She was the top non-Division I, II or NAIA competitor in the event.

Selle finished with a total of 2,962 points which is the second highest score in the MIAC to date and No.10 on the school's all-time list. During the 5-event competition, Selle posted conference Top 10 marks in the 60-meter hurdles and high jump. Sell clocked a 9.66 in the hurdles which is No.8 in the MIAC. Her height of 5-01.25 in the high jump is second best in the MIAC.

Frolek also posted a pair of conference Top 10 marks. She was fourth in the 600 meters on Friday with a time of 1:41.42. That finishing time jumps her into the No.6 spot in the MIAC this year. Frolek repeated her Top 10 feat on Saturday when she crossed the line in the mile in a time of 5:16.94. She was seventh at the meet and that mark is ninth in the conference. Her time in the mile is also No.7 on the school's all-time list.

The 600 meters was also the top event for the Cobbers in the 2-day meet. Besides Frolek, freshman Eden Smith and senior Isabel Fredrickson also recorded conference Top 10 times. Smith ran a 1:43.26, while Fredickson was only .90 of a second behind and clocked a 1:44.16. The pair now sit ninth and 10th in the conference.

Fredrickson also jumped into the Top 10 in the 800 meters. She posted a time of 2:23.87 which is No.6 in the MIAC this year.

Junior sprinter Carlie Heinecke also climbed into the Top 10 over the weekend. She recorded a time of 8.25 in the 60 meters which is ninth in the conference and the 12th fastest time in school history.

Allyson Kangas came up with a huge mark in the shot put and jumped all the way to No.2 in the conference, surpassing teammate Cayle Hovland. Kangas came through with a mark of 43-05.25 which earned her eighth place at the meet. It is also the seventh farthest mark in program history.

The Cobbers' top relay mark at the meet came from the 4x400-meter quartet of Smith, Fredrickson, Meg Shercliffe and Frolek. The team ran a 4:20.30 which was a season best for CC and the fifth fastest in the conference.

Concordia will compete in its first Division III meet when they head to Collegeville to compete in the St. Benedict Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m.
