Hovland Earns MIAC Weekly Honor

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/11/21)---Cayle Hovland was named the MIAC Field Athlete of the Week after winning the discus and finishing second in both the shot put and hammer throw at the St. Olaf Ole Open on Saturday.

It is the first time in her three years at Concordia that Hovland has earned the MIAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honor. She won the weekly award for Indoor Field Athlete of the Week during her freshman season in 2019.

Hovland also becomes the first Cobber field athlete to win the conference weekly award since 2017 when Emma Peterson was named the MIAC Field Athlete of the Week on two occasions.

Hovland captured this week's weekly honor by posting a trio of Top 3 finishes at the Ole Open. Her top performance came in the discus where she won the event with a personal best-mark of 146-04 which is 12th best in Division III this season. The Top 18 in each event qualify for the NCAA Division III National Meet which will be held on May 27-29 in North Carolina this year.

Hovland's winning distance in the discus is also the fifth best in school history.

Hovland complete her award-winning meet by finishing second in both the shot put and hammer throw at the Ole Open. She finished with a mark of 43-07.75 in the shot put and had a top distance of 146-06 in the hammer.

Hovland also holds a Top 15 DIII mark in the shot put where her season-best distance of 45-05 is No.9 in the nation this year.

Hovland will be hoping to help the Cobbers at the upcoming MIAC Championship Meet which will be held on May 14-15 at Hamline University.
