Cobbers Compete At Ron Masanz Invite

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/05/12)—Concordia competed in one final multi-team invitational before the MIAC Championship Meet as they participated in the Ron Masanz Invite at MSU Moorhead on Saturday. Megan Hoffman and Chelsea Klemetson recorded all-time top 5 marks and CC had five different top 3 finishes at the cross-town meet.

In the calm-before-the-storm meet, Concordia had 18 personal best marks and were once again led by the standout jump crew. Hoffman paced the track athletes as she ran a 63.74 in the 400-meter hurdles and finished in third place in the event. Her finishing time is the fourth fastest in school history. The only other top 3 finish in the track events came from Morgan Christian who placed third in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 59.05.

Klemetson continued her outstanding freshman season by finishing in a tie for first place in the high jump. She cleared 5-06.00 which is the top height in the MIAC this season and the third highest in school history. Klemetson finished second in the conference indoor meet in the high jump and competed at the NCAA Indoor Meet.

Klemetson was one of four Cobber field athletes to finish in the top 3 at the Masanz Invite. Hilary Thompson placed in the top 3 in both the long jump and triple jump. She won the triple jump with a mark of 38-01.25 and was second in the long jump with a distance of 17-08.25. Her final mark in the long jump is a personal best and the fourth farthest in the MIAC this year. Thompson also owns the best mark in the triple jump in the conference.

Joining Klemetson and Thompson as top 3 finishers was Tessa Comstock and Cherae Reeves. Comstock cleared 9-06.25 in the pole vault and finished third while Reeves was second in the shot put with a distance of 41-09.75. Reeves posted a distance of 43-02.25 in the event earlier in the year which is the second best distance in the MIAC.

Concordia will now have a week to prepare for the MIAC Championship Meet. The Cobbers will host the conference meet on May 10-11 at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex and the Irv Christenson Track.
