Wins Just Keep Coming In Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. (03/01/22)--- The wins just keep coming for the Cobbers in their newly appointed home state of Florida. A day, after opening their spring trip with their first victory of the year, Concordia posted wins over Houghton (N.Y.) and Adrian (Mich.) to remain unbeaten in the Sunshine State.

The Cobbers blanked Houghton 9-0 to start the day, and then posted a dramatic 5-4 victory over Adrian in the nightcap.

Against the Highlanders, Concordia had Raquel Egge, Mary Skorich and Luci Kulseth all post back-to-back bagel wins as they didn't drop a game in their 6-0, 6-0 victories. The victory for Kulseth was her first collegiate singles win.

Neither of the Cobbers' Top 2 doubles teams gave away a game against Houghton. Egge and Anna Hacker claimed an 8-0 win at No.1 doubles, and Emily Savageau and Skorich followed with an identical 8-0 win in the No.2 spot.

While Concordia coasted in the first match, they had to fight for every point and every win against Adrian.

Savageau and Skorich got the first team point for CC when they recorded an 8-6 win at No.2 doubles. The match of the day came at No.3 doubles where the CC duo of Abby Westrum and Taylor Partington rallied from a 4-1 deficit to post an 8-6 win. That victory was the turning point of the match and helped CC claim three singles wins.

Erin Borchard won her singles bout in the No.6 spot in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Skorich was next to close out her match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No.4 singles that gave Concordia four team points and pushed the Cobbers within one win of clinching the overall team match.

Hacker would deliver the match clincher when she outlasted her opponent at No.3 singles 6-2, 6-3.

Hacker and Skorich are now tied for the team lead in singles wins with three.

UP NEXT: Concordia will put their Florida win streak on hold as they have a day off on Wednesday. CC will return to action on Thursday, Mar. 3 when they face Regis (Mass.) and Calvin (Mich.).
